IIITH introduces Online Master of Science in Information Technology program on Coursera
Mumbai: The International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad (IIITH) is introducing an Online Master of Science in Information Technology (eMSIT) program on Coursera, a prominent global online learning platform.
The eMSIT program is the inaugural master’s degree offered by an Indian university on Coursera. It assimilates and acknowledges industry micro-credentials, enabling students to progress in their learning journey based on their previous knowledge.Raghav Gupta, Managing Director, India and Asia Pacific, Coursera, expressed, “We’re honored to partner with IIIT Hyderabad to bring the benefits of the high-quality, affordable education the university is known for to learners across India and beyond.”
The program’s curriculum includes practical projects, specializations in data science, full stack development, and machine learning, as well as exposure to AI tools like ChatGPT and Copilot. Students will also receive support from experienced teaching assistants and regular sessions with seasoned industry professionals.
Prof. P. J. Narayanan, Director of IIIT Hyderabad, stated, “We are excited to expand access to MSIT’s innovative, interdisciplinary learning experience. The programme’s innovative ‘learn by doing’ framework will help new generations of students successfully launch or advance their careers in IT and computer science.”
NASSCOM predicts that the Indian IT industry will require approximately 95 lakh tech professionals by 2026. Graduates of the eMSIT program will be equipped for these in-demand computer science and IT positions across various industries. Students will have access to online job boards and networking opportunities with MSIT’s extensive alumni network of 3,000 individuals employed at prestigious companies.
Prof. Raj Reddy, Founding Chairman of IIIT-Hyderabad, remarked, “As IIIT Hyderabad celebrates its silver jubilee, this new programme will help us continue our legacy into the future and build on our commitment to make India a global tech talent hub. Our partnership with Coursera helps us deliver this transformative programme at scale and widen the talent pool, as the National Education Policy envisioned.”
The program allows students to learn at their own pace and from any location. The application process aims to attract learners from diverse backgrounds. Applicants must have a four-year undergraduate (UG) degree with a STEM background or a three-year undergraduate degree with at least one course in Mathematics of Computing plus one year of a post-graduate program after UG.
