(Cyber)security products for accelerated development
The listed products for accelerated development are technologies that (either/all):
- have reached TRL 5 (at least) through a previous development programme, like GSTP
- are sufficiently mature and have previously been developed in the context of a mission/s and assigned to different implementation concepts for different types of platforms
- are identified as basic capabilities that will support future missions and increase technological security for future missions.
Proposed (cyber)security technologies
In line with trending technologies for upcoming space missions, the selected development will look to focus on Low Earth Orbiting (LEO) mid-size or address the needs of New Space satellites.
Specific activities proposed for accelerated development:
- Protection of communication links
- Intrusion Detection
- Protection / Recovery
Approach
The technology developments listed complement the GSTP Compendia 2026-2028 for Cybersecurity. The selected developments will be integrated into a modular security architecture – which breaks down complex security into independent, interchangeable components (modules) that handle specific functions. This will allow individual components to be added or updated without having to redesign the entire systems involved. The security reference architecture will be used as a starting point for all future space missions.
This approach accelerates commercialisation and industrialisation by enabling the use of proven security products, reducing re-engineering efforts and shortening development timelines. The developments are also essential for ensuring compliance with the latest European Cooperation for Space Standardisation (ECSS) Security standards and EU Space Act, making them critical for the security and regulatory of future space missions.
Expression of Interest
Help ESA align national priorities with industry capabilities – express your non‑binding interest in the (cyber)security products.
Expressions of Interest will be collated and shared with the respective National Delegations. This process aims to accelerate alignment between national priorities, the ESA work plan, and space industry capabilities – ultimately increasing the likelihood of key products progressing to open competitive procurements in the GSTP Element 1 Work Plan for successful development.
The following guideline provides instructions for completing the Request for Information (RFI):
- Access the GSTP “Accelerated Development of Security Products for Space Systems Protection 2026-2028” document on esa-star Publication News.
- Review the document and identify the Activities of your interest.
- Fill in one form per Activity of interest.
- Insert the Programme Reference of the selected activity in the first field (i.e. GT1Y-xxxxx) and complete the rest of the form.
- In case of interest in multiple activities, indicate the level of priority with an appropriate explanation. This information will support the decision making of the national delegation. Ensure a balance among Priority-1; Priority-2; Priority-3, and Priority-4.
- The invitation to express interest is open for submissions for participants registered in one of ESA GSTP Participating States: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia, and Canada
We look forward to sharing more once the submission period has closed!
