Base44 joins Wix in $80M deal to support natural language software development

Software-as-a-service website building platform company Wix.com Ltd. today announced that it has acquired Base44 Inc. for about $80 million plus additional earn-out payments through 2029.

Founded only in January, the startup offers an artificial intelligence-powered platform to create custom software solutions and applications using natural language. Its AI-powered no-code platform allows anyone to build fully functional, production-ready web applications using natural language prompts. A player in the “vibe coding” space, Base44 allows creators of all skill levels to transform ideas into software quickly and intuitively.

The company’s platform works via a chat-based interface that allows users to describe what they want to build. The Base44 platform then automatically generates the back-end, front-end, database, authentication and deployment infrastructure based on the details provided by the user.

Where Base44 says it differs from other vibe coding tools is its fully integrated environment. Everything is built into the platform and does not require third-party services for storage, email, analytics or authentication, thereby reducing complexity and eliminating the need for external setup.

Coming into its acquisition, Base44 is profitable and had more than 20,000 users as of March. Notable customers include eToro Group Ltd. and SimilarWeb Ltd.

Wix intends to continue to operate Base44 as a distinct product and business, maintaining its unique identity and momentum while benefiting from the scale and support of Wix.

“I honestly can’t think of a better fit,” said Base44 Chief Executive Maor Shlomo. “Wix is probably the only company that can help Base44 achieve the scale and distribution it needs while maintaining, if not accelerating, our product velocity. Our market is massive. It has the potential to replace entire software categories by enabling people to create software instead of buying it.”
